| Rodney Reid Wins $3000 in Championship Event |
Rodney Reid (left) won the first joint Pokermania - QueenSix championship event last Sunday and took the trophy and $3000 prize.
Photos of the day are available in our photo gallery.
A field of around 50 players lined up to compete for the $5000 prize pool, with 15 players from QueenSix.
The final table was a great mix with all areas represented. Three QueenSix players lined up against five Pokermania players including one of their Queensland qualifiers.
After surviving on a short stack for most of the tournament, QueenSix player, Rishi Boojharut, was the first out at the final table.
The tension built as the field was reduced to 5 players before QueenSix player, Gavin Williams, pushed with an all-in on the flop with AQ, and was called by Reid who had hit the board with J10. Reid's pair held up and Williams was eliminated. Two hands later QueenSix player Craig Striger pushed all-in and was called by the now big stack, Reid, who won the hand on the river to end Striger's day.
Heads up was an epic battle between Reid and Kim Mathiesen (QLD), with the chips moving between the two before Mathieson chased a flush-draw on an all-in bet which didn't hit, and effectively sealed his fate in second position.
Congratulations to QueenSix players Craig Striger and Gavin Williams who finished 4th and 5th respectively and took the minor cash prizes.
Results and venues of qualification: 1. Rodney Reid ($3000) - Pokermania (North Richmond Hotel) 2. Kim Mathiesen ($1000) - Pokermania (Post Office Hotel, Maryborough, QLD) 3. Steve Abdul ($500) - Pokermania (Campsie Hotel) 4. Craig Striger ($300) - QueenSix (Alexandria Hotel) 5. Gavin Williams ($200) - QueenSix (Bligh Hotel - now moved to Concourse Bar)
